About
Respiratory Medicine at
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Providing leadership in Respiratory Medicine in Western Australia
Welcome to the department of Respiratory Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Our expert clinicians work to improve the health of people with lung diseases in three main ways.
Clinical Care
We provide in-patient services through our base ward G54, and by outreach to all areas of the hospital.
Our out-patient department is the busiest in the state, providing a range of specialist investigations and treatments.
We also work more broadly with colleagues across the region and internationally on quality improvement initiatives and to create and maintain guidelines.
Research
All members of the department are actively engaged in research. Our team has a substantial research grant income and an excellent record of academic publications.
We also engage in industry-funded research to bring the potential of using new treatments to our patients at an early stage.
Education
Sir Charles Gairdner is a teaching hospital, and we are proud to be shaping junior doctors into the next generation of specialists. We are also active in formal and clinical teaching for students from Perth’s universities.
Outside the hospital, our team are actively engaged in continuing medical education for General Practitioners and consultants in other specialities.
